Our mission is to provide a resilient platform to publicize and promote revolutionary theory and action. I decided to focus my research on the architecture of the schools as it is an aspect of the schools that has long lasting effects even after they close down and it is a constant for all of the schools, thus providing a criterion to compare and contrast all 48 schools in my project. Architecture was also the most reliable aspect of schools in terms of finding data, as the archives of a lot of the schools have been lost or destroyed throughout the years. Lynx is the creator of QueerofGender, a grassroots organization and transnational visibility project, celebrating the various experiences of gender within LGBTTQQ2SIAP+ Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities. A writer, multimedium artist, activist, educator, creator and community builder, Lynx’s work and art is informed by Black feminism, collective community love and social, disability and healing justice movements.
In doing so, these bonds that transcended the film inadvertently inspired Hsiung to courageously break her own silence of childhood sexual abuse and while filming her case went to court. Several of the projects involved game theory, hypertext treatments and other interactive or activated text-based approaches. Sam Strong, our resident expert in this area helped students resolve technical issues in the mechanics of code writing and site design. Sam’s knowledge of web-development helped the students push the boundaries and potentials in web-art and text-based approaches. Sam’s experience, skill, and personal philosophy of code writing practice allowed the students to find ways to tell and understand the stories they were working with as they explored old and new digital territories, interfaces and innovative approaches. For the past five years, filmmaker Tiffany Hsiung has been working tirelesslyon a National Film Board feature documentary about these women and their stories entitledThe Apology.
